This Year’s Speakers
Wasim Khan MBE – CEO, Leicestershire Cricket Club
In 1990, he became the first British born Pakistani to become a professional cricketer in England. He played in the historical double winning team at Warwickshire back in 1995.
He was recruited as by Lord Mervyn King, former Governor of the Bank of England to plan and deliver, Chance to Shine, a £50 million cricket-education programme in state schools. By 2014, £55 million had been raised and the programme had delivered to over 2.5 million state school children, including 1 million girls. The programme is now recognised as one of the biggest of its kind, in the world.
In January 2015, he completed an Executive MBA at Warwick Business School and also took on the role of Chief Executive of Leicestershire County Cricket Club. In doing so, he became the first ever Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) CEO of a County Cricket Club and is currently the only BME CEO across any professional sports club in this country.
The club has recorded a profit in the first two years of his tenure having endured five years of losses prior to his arrival.
Wasim has delivered a number of ‘leadership in practice’ lectures on the MBA programme at Warwick Business School.

Leanne Bonner-Cooke – Managing Director, Evolve
Leanne Bonner-Cooke has been recognised as an individual and a business leader, for her entrepreneurialism, professionalism and innovation, which has been recognised by her award successes since 2015 with 14 nominations.
Leanne originally trained as an Accountant, and was witness to the technological evolution in the 1980s and as technology became more accessible and its increased efficiencies became apparent, she found herself hooked on IT.
Leanne Bonner-Cooke: “I could see the virtues new technology brought to a business, but as I became more involved with IT, it became apparent that IT departments were, typically, dictating to the business and that didn’t make sense to me. Business improvement starts with the people and the processes, and technology is the enabler which can make great things achievable. That’s why when Evolve was imagined, I was determined to offer something many IT firms didn’t: a business consultant who would concentrate on the people and processes and an expert who could develop the technology to realise the customers desired outcomes.”
In 2007 she transferred her dream into reality and established Evolve. She feels proud that during the recession she has established a credible business with some high profile clients, and has continued to grow Evolve into an international business with employees in the UK and associates abroad, enabling them to scale up as projects demand.
